An autobiographically informed material and body-based theatre piece that, through physical spatial interweaving, ropes, and sound, renders themes of rootedness, foreignness, and transgenerational belonging tangible as a performative network.
„Wurzeln schlagen. Wie eine Nagel in die Wand. Was für ein schöner, handwerklicher Ausdruck. Und wie schön es wäre, dazu etwas Ähnliches, wie eine IKEA – Bauanleitung zu haben. Eine Art Prozessbeschreibung. Eine DIY – Build yourself a home, die Punkt für Punkt erklärt, wie man (1.) für sich in einer fremden Kultur einen Platz finden, (2.) ein soziales Netz ausbauen (3.) und sich darauf einlassen kann. Solange, bis die Durchführung eines Integrationsprozesses so einfach sein wird, wie der Aufbau eines Billy Regals, nehmen wir die wunderbare Komplexität dieses Themas als Forschungsfeld, und unsere persönlichen Erfahrungen.
Do it yourself! Put down roots! The integration how-to should be simple, transparent, and easy to understand. Lázár takes the motifs mentioned above—‘lines,’ ‘networking,’ ‘binding,’ ‘tying down’—quite literally: using ropes, carabiners, and pulley systems, she spins the stage space into a web. She puts down roots in the space, weaves herself a social network, builds a would-be home.
At the same time, interview sequences and Hungarian folk songs stretch an unusual sonic space around it. Lázár visualizes her personal experiences and the transgenerational patterns underlying them. In this way, a comprehensive fabric of thoughts, images, sounds, and movements emerges, offering the audience the opportunity to become familiar with their own feelings of foreignness and to feel welcome in their dislocation.”
