Put down roots. How nice it would be to have something similar to an IKEA construction manual for this. A kind of process description. A DIY - build yourself a home that explains point by point how to (1.) find a place for yourself in a foreign culture, (2.) build a social network (3.) and get involved. Especially nowadays. Especially in Germany. Until the implementation of an integration process will be as easy as building a Billy shelf, we take the marvellous complexity of this topic as a field of research, and our personal experiences.
Do It Yourself! Root yourself! An integration how-to should be simple, clear and understandable. Lázár takes the above-mentioned motifs such as ‘lines’, ‘networking’, ‘binding’ and ‘tying’ literally for the sake of simplicity: she weaves the stage space with the help of ropes, carabiners and pulleys. She puts down roots in the space, weaves herself a social network, builds herself a wanna-be home. At the same time, interview sequences and Hungarian folk songs create an unic sound space around her. Lázár visualises her personal experiences and the trans-generational patterns on which they are based. In this way, a comprehensive fabric of thoughts, images, sounds and movements is created, offering the audience the opportunity to familiarise themselves with their own feelings of foreignness and to feel welcome in their dislocation.
