A contemporary stage adaptation of Maurice Maeterlinck’s fairy tale, in which the search for happiness and meaning unfolds through fantastical landscapes as a narrative journey between reality and imagination.
“Tyltyl and Mytyl live their lives as typical ‘Gen Z’ teenagers in a middle-class family. One day, a fairy appears in their living room and asks them to search for the ‘Blue Bird.’ This ‘Bird of Happiness’ is meant to heal the fairy’s sick daughter. But she does not send the teenagers on the journey alone. With the help of a magic diamond, she brings the ‘souls of things’ to life—namely the souls of sugar, bread, water, fire, as well as the souls of the dog and the cat.
This colorful group now sets off on a journey through fantastical landscapes such as the ‘Palace of Night,’ the ‘Land of Memory,’ and the ‘Kingdom of the Future’ in search of the Blue Bird and happiness. A fairy tale for everyone that resonates in the present day: How do we actually search for happiness?”
